Tony Iommi Says His 'Scent Of Dark' Project Took Two Years Of Development

Black Sabbath guitarist and co-founder Tony Iommi reflected on an "interesting" 2021 in a recent New Year's message.

Iommi noted that releasing his own perfume — Xerjoff's 'Scent of Dark' — which he did last fall, was the culmination of a longtime interest in fragrances, and something he never thought he'd get to do.

The project took two years to come to fruition, he added, and it also marked his first new music release in years — in the form of the fragrance's instrumental theme song, which you can listen to via the player below.

Iommi, who has talked often in recent years of doing another solo album, says he's writing more new music along the same lines as the "Scent of Dark" piece.

"I really enjoyed it, and the response has been fantastic," he said of the new single. "I'm going to continue in that vein of writing stuff like that. It was a great experience."

But 2021 also marked a reunion of sorts between Iommi and Ozzy Osbourne. Iommi contributed another piece of new music to Ozzy's forthcoming 13th solo album. He addressed the collaboration.

"He's done some great vocals on it," Iommi said of the instrumental he presented to his old bandmate. "I was really pleased with what he's done — he's singing really well."

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer added a thank you to his longtime manager and wished his fans "all the very best for 2022."
